What makes Villa Adriana so Special?

“A wonderful setting full of atmosphere and natural images-sounds, smells and light. This is an idyllic location for a complete switch off from the realities at home- we wish every holiday could be like this." Michael & Margaret

The Villa Adriana and studio

A romantic Venetian early 19th century pink-stuccoed house with thick stone walls - is one of the landmarks of Lakka. Restored to very high standards, our home is set in one acre of ancient majestic olive trees offering complete seclusion, tranquillity and privacy. Yet it is only 5 minutes' walk down the hill to Lakka's village harbour with its excellent tavernas and beaches with crystal clear water. And 2 minutes down the path to a large hotel swimming pool, which our guests are welcome to use for free.

When we bought it in 2005, the house had been owned by the same local family for about 150 years. But it had fallen into disrepair. We painstakingly restored the outside to its former glory and transformed the interior into a comfortable contemporary living space, while preserving original features such as the olive wood lintels and stone window alcoves. Large shuttered windows and high ceilings give a luxurious atmosphere of spaciousness and light.
Beyond the large terraces, paved walks through the villa’s upper garden lead to the pavilion, which looks out onto spectacular views of Lakka Bay with its famed turquoise waters and the open sea - perfect for watching the sun set while enjoying a glass of wine. The lower half of the house is a light and airy separate studio apartment, with its own large terrace and garden. The house is paradise for families, walkers, writers, artists, nature lovers, honeymooners and other romantic couples. You can live the romance of Mamma Mia! We've spent 30 summers visiting Greece in a happy search for the perfect island with the perfect house: we think this is it.

The Villa sleeps 4 people. Large living room / kitchen / dining area, with bathroom and two double bedrooms, looking out onto two large terraces with traditional barbecue. Stunning view of Lakka Bay and the open sea from the garden pavilion.

The Studio sleeps 2 people. Large, light open-plan studio with comfortable kitchen and living area, and separate bathroom. With its own terrace barbecue looking out onto private part of the large garden, with hammocks under ancient olive trees.

The terraces of the villa in the upper part of the house, and the studio in the lower part are on completely different levels and sides of the house, so you will not be overlooked. Both have their own part of the garden, though the studio garden has no sea views. You may hire the villa and studio separately or together, which is ideal for families who travel with teenage children or grandparents, or for groups of friends. The garden is not really suitable for toddlers as some of the olive terraces have high uneven walls. For older children it is a real adventure playground.

These scale drawings will give you an idea of the room layouts and the size of the terraces, which open onto the gardens.

LOCATION

Paxos is a small, magical paradise, just 12 by 4 km in the Ionian Sea, south of Corfu. Quiet beaches in small bays with turquoise waters surround the tiny island, which is really one huge olive grove with cypresses and wild flowers, unspoiled by mass tourism.

From Corfu you can take a boat (about 1¾ hours) or hydrofoil (I hour) to Gaios in the south of the island. Our house in Lakka, at the northern tip of the island, is about 15 minutes’ drive from the port. If you need to stay overnight in Corfu, there is a range of good hotels at reasonable prices. We’ll give you full travel details when you make a booking. Our manager, Andreas can also meet you at the port and bring you to the house.

Although our property is quiet, secluded and private, it’s only 5 minutes’ walk down the hill to the village, and 8 minutes’ walk to the two nearest beaches.

This means that you have the great luxury of an agonising choice: a peaceful night under the stars at home in one of the hammocks or on the terraces, or a very social evening in the village. In May, the fireflies will guide you home. You will wake up to the sound of the cicadas and you will not be disturbed by the late night village sounds. No chauffering duties: your teenage children can go out independently and safely walk home.

"We ended our honeymoon in this idyllic spot. The peace and seclusion was very welcome. It was pure pleasure to wake to your beautiful garden each morning. The studio did not disappoint: well-equipped and the bed sooo comfortable." Julie & Nigel

"We loved the discretion of the place, the seclusion yet proximity to Lakka and the beach. Our stay was perfect. If we had to choose to buy a house on Paxos, it’d be this one. We understand why you fell in love with it!" Nahida & Ioannis

"Everything was perfect and we really loved it. ‘Divine', ‘heaven' and 'celestial bliss' don’t begin to describe it. I really understand why you fell in love with the place!!" Giulia
